I might be showing my age, but does anyone remember Miss Cleo? She was an American woman that donned a wrap scarf and recreated herself as a Jamaican psychic. She had a 900 number-style psychic network that came on late nights in the 90s. she had a major following and probably grossed millions until the company she represented, Psychic Readers Network, was sued for deceptive advertising, billing and collection practices. That’s when it came out that she not only had a fake accent, but that she was actually a pretty well-known actress and playwright, born in California and bred in Seattle, WA. It’s funny how her “special psychic abilities” didn’t see any of this coming. She fell off, never to be heard from again, eventually passing away in 2016 at the age of 56 from colon cancer.
What's even more tragic is that a self-proclaimed psychic didn't know that she would die penniless and alone.
Or maybe she did.
If you knew exactly how much time you had on this earth, what would you do? Jump out of an airplane? Have a candlelight dinner on the French Rivera? Go to the casino and put it all on black? Go out and have a bunch of sexscapades?
I'm sure that you have a lot of things that you may want to do. You have plans and goals and wishes on a star. I bet that you have had dreams about all of the things that you want to do and see and taste and experience before you close your eyes and take your final breath. It's not morbid. Human beings have dream and desires. It's literally part of our genetic makeup. So, since I've put your mind at ease, riddle me this...
WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR???
If 2019 has taught me anything it is that life is a lot shorter than I think it is. Things can change as quickly as a blink of an eye. There are no guarantees of tomorrow and we should be living our lives in a way that maximizes every aspect of that.
I know that we all have kids and bills and obligations and responsibilities. That is a part of life as well. But there is nothing wrong with loving and living your life. There is nothing wrong with travelling and there is nothing wrong with staying home. There is nothing wrong with making it rain and there is nothing wrong with stacking it up. There is nothing wrong with laughing, loving and building a legacy of happiness and peace for yourself and your children.
The most important thing is that you live your life the way that you want to. Your life is like your fingerprint; it's unique to you. No one else can see the world the way that you see it. No one can love people the way that you love them. And even though you only die once, every day that you see a new sun rise in the east, you get another chance to experience life in a way only you can.
So take that nap. Apply for that job. Book that trip. Love that man. Or woman. Play with your kids. Eat that piece of cheesecake. I love myself and I believe that I need to take better care of myself but I also know that my soul needs happiness just as much as my taste buds. No matter what you do, live your life.
